Ozone/UV air treatment is best accomplished with the lowest fan CFM that allows for the best Hydroponics closet grow room air exchange. The longer period of time the odor is exposed to the ozone, the better the odor is destroyed. This slower air movement reduces the amount of post duct work required to effectively treat the exhausted odor. So, no new purchase of a higher CFM exhaust fan is needed, or your initial purchase can be lower CFM exhaust fans at a lower cost.

Two words to remember when installing a Big Blue Ozone Generator are Contact Time. The longer the ozone "sees" the odor molecules the better the "kill" rate.

If you are just starting out, determine how many Hydroponics plants you intend to grow, how many watts of HID grow lights you will have, and where you will run your exhaust duct work, into a large attic or outdoors. If your plans are for around 30-35 Hydroponics plants, an 8" Big Blue Ozone may work if you are exhausting into an attic, or can run about 25' of duct work, so it depends on your exhaust run plans. 

Contact time will determine your appropriate size of Big Blue ozone generator . If you will be running duct work into an attic, it is possible to use the smaller 8" UV ozone generator as the attic becomes a huge mixing chamber. For installs of the Big Blue ozone generator where the exhaust and duct work is exiting through the side of the building, it will require a long run of duct work to eliminate the odor, around 25" feet. Q: What size exhaust fans should I use?

A: This is more related to the number of air exchanges, in a given period, you desire for proper plant transpiration. It is not a question of what is best for odor elimination. It is best to use the lowest cfm exhaust fans available to accomplish this exchange. BIG BLUE ozone units come in varying diameters from 4 to 12 inches. The larger diameters are not only designed to fit your existing ventilation duct work but also ever higher exhaust fans volume. In other words the 12 inch BIG BLUE Ozone Generator will handle more cfm than the 4 inch.

Q: Do I need a mixing chamber?
A: The BIG BLUE Ozone is designed as an air purification chamber. As the odor bearing air is exhausted from your closet grow room it is directed through the duct work to the BIG BLUE Ozone Generator. Q: What is the difference between corona discharge (CD) and ultraviolet light (UV) ozone?
A: CD ozone generator units use an exposed electrical arc to generate ozone. A byproduct of Corona Discharge ozonation is nitric acid. Q: Do I need a pre-filter?

Using some old panty hose material stretched over the inlet to the exhaust fans and secured with duct tape will help minimize this contamination. This "panty hose" filter is easily replaced when you do your regular Hydroponics garden maintenance.

Q: Will high heat levels effect the ozone output?
